After a couple sessions of mixing with the amazing Scott Weddle and Jim Brunberg, the 3 songs are almost ready to be heard. They should be available on itunes in the next two months. Being produced by Scott was a real treat. Already respecting him as a musician, he was really able to take my songs and give them the colors and vibe they needed. I think it is so interesting that one song can be done an infinite amount of ways just by collaborating with different musicians, producers, engineers. Not that I ever grow tired of creating music, but this aspect sure makes it exciting.

Mixing should start soon on the new EP that will be released before Summer’s end. (Fingers crossed) This next group of songs is so long overdue and I am very excited to let it out into the world. I have recently been listening to the new Elbow album (So good) and some other very notable stuff: Pinback, The Weepies and Olivia Broadfield. It’s so cool how what you are listening to locks the memory of the time period of where you were and what you were doing. These artists will now mean May and June 08 for me and driving around in the warm sun.
As I wait here for summer to arrive here in Portland, I’ve been writing and recording a lot. Ironically, I as sit here typing this into a computer the new song I’ve written is about doing away with some of the noise that city life and technology bring. I have always had a love-hate relationship with technology. I long for simplicity and quiet, yet being able to connect to people instantly and search for anything on the internet is a powerful thing. Doesn’t anyone wonder what all this instant gratification will do to people over time? I know that when I record I am always alone and will definitely rent a cabin somewhere to record an album in a heartbeat. Being away from noise helps me get all my thoughts together, helps me figure out who I am. One day I am going to be brave enough to throw a new cell phone into the ocean and it will be so therapeutic…
